Alec Aldred is a trumpet player, arranger, and composer originally from Waukesha, Wisconsin, who is currently based in the Washington DC area.  In 2016, Alec graduated from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music with a bachelor’s degree and continued his studies at Manhattan School of Music, obtaining a master’s degree in 2018. In 2015, he placed second in the National Trumpet Competition - Jazz Division and was one of the three finalists in the 2019 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Solo Competition.  While studying at the Frost School of Music, Alec played in numerous Downbeat Award-winning ensembles as well as the Frost Concert Jazz Band, earning the opportunity to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival.  He has studied extensively with jazz trumpet greats Brian Lynch and Scott Wendholt.  Alec was a member of the chamber jazz trio Sound Underground which released three critically acclaimed albums from 2013-2018.  With Sound Underground, Alec has toured Eastern Europe twice and has also toured the Midwest and West Coast multiple times.  He has played at major music festivals in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Mexico as well as the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. In 2019, Alec played on Brian Lynch’s Grammy award-winning big band album, “The Omni-American Songbook.” “Momentarily Temporary,” Alec’s first album as a band leader, was released in 2020 on Brian Lynch’s record label, Hollistic Musicworks. In 2020, Alec won a jazz trumpet position in the US Army Blues, part of The U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own and the premier jazz ensemble of the Army.
